Often Forgotten Cleaning Spots in the Home

Bottoms of Rugs

While we regularly skim a vacuum over the top of our rugs, we often neglect the bottom which can lead to an accumulation of dust and mites. It's a good idea, now that spring is just around the corner, to take your rugs outside and give them a good bash. Don't hold back, get as much of the ingrained dust out as possible and then finish with a vacuum.

Blinds & Drapes

Dust accumulates quickly on blinds, but it is easy to think about giving them a clean when you spot it but it's late in the evening or you're just getting up and you've got other things on your mind. For wooden blinds a wipe with a dampened cloth is good enough to get that dust off. Shower curtains too need to be washed, you can unclip them after the morning shower and put them into a bucket with some vinegar and water mixture before hanging out to dry.

Tops of Fridges

When did you last clean the very top of your fridge....honestly... yup, this difficult to reach and easy to forget area can be a haven for dust and grime, especially when in the kitchen. Get some sturdy steps and wipe the dust away with a damp cloth first before putting in some elbow grease and scrubbing away the grime.

Cleaning Tools

With cheap cloths stacked on our supermarket shelves, it's easy to think of cleaning kits as fairly disposable, but they a soak in some warm vinegar-water mixture and then air dried rags, washcloths and removable mop heads will be back to a usable state. We also suggest washing your vacuum filters every couple of months and why not even give your broom head a quick once over with the vacuum.

Gym Bag

We know it's something you mean to get round to, but that gym back lurking by the door is something we often forget to attend to. Some bags can be bundled into a machine, but if you need to do yours by hand. Wipe down the interior with a warm sponge and leave to dry, then sprinkle with some baking soda to rid yourself of those sweaty smells.

Rubbish Bin

Its a great idea to get into the habit of giving your rubbish and compost bins a quick once over every time you change the bag, but we know that's not always convenient. So over time of bag in bag out, bag in, bag out, suddenly it can be a month before you've attended to the rubbish bin. Wash with hot soapy water and let them dry naturally if you can, then sprinkle the bottom with baking soda to absorb some of those bin odors.

Ceilings

Do you ever look up and spot a MASSIVE cobweb and have no real idea how it got there looking all old and spooky. Or check out that spot on the ceiling above the stairs that you spend all your time rushing past. Dust can accumulate on the ceiling so it's a good idea to give it a good sweep a couple of time of years. Make sure you cover your nose and mouth as you'll be surprised how much gets up there! Take a duster to those cobwebs and get right into the corners.

Lots of love
